Here we are up in Alaska, a great way to end the summer — its my Dad’s 60th birthday so Ryan and I are making him spend the week with us, take us fishing, clam digging and hopefully a little hiking too. ;0) Today we went out on the water just outside of Homer, we were on our way home from a long day of fishing when from the back of the boat you can hear my Mom yelling “WHALE!!! WHALE!!!” Just to our right there were 10-12 ginormous humpback whales spouting and slapping their tales and playing around. Before you knew it we were surrounded by them!! Then it got a little scary — two of these huge beasts decided to get really playful… they circled us… they went under the boat and then surfaced a little too close for us to focus and before you knew it they splashed us with water!! We got out un-harmed, but sadly my all but one of my memory cards were lost in the making of these photos…. goodbye 60gb of SanDisk CF cards – its been nice knowing you!!
Woah, you weren’t kidding!!!!! Insane!!!!!!! Hope that made up for not seeing any at Roche??
The whales like you!
These photos are breathtaking!!! I cannot believe how close we came to being in Alaska at the same time. I cannot even begin to express my longing to see whales that close up. 🙂 Glad you had fun and returned to harbor safely.
Awesome pics Rube! Just gorgeous and with the mountain as a backdrop,,,pretty breathtaking.
We are going down to Homer Thursday…will you send us whales and a boat??
