I LOVE MOHAI! Last night’s event was Drawn to Seattle, where Gabriel Campanario is featured on the 2nd floor at the super cool South Lake Union Museum with his sketches of Seattle.
There were many local urban sketchers set up around the museum with their pencils, pens, and water colors working away in their sketch books, it was pretty cool! I talked with a couple of them and it turns out they have monthly meetings and events where they sketch together! Urban Sketchers – check it out!
The Kalakala is one of my FAVORITE pieces of Seattle history – so it was fun to hear Gabriel talk about how he was able to get the angle of this sketch. He met a guy (Mark, seen in the sketch to the right of the boat on his kayak) who taught him to kayak and they set out on the water for an hour and a half trip each direction! He ended up tipping over, getting his book a bit wet – but made the story that much more enjoyable and left some fun water marks on the image!
Another favorite! If you lived in Fremont, Ballard or Magnolia – you surely remember this adorable little house! The woman who lived there refused to sell – because, where else would she go?? It was fun to go by there and see all of her little nick nacs in the window. ;0)
