Back to school portrait time!!

Aaaahhhh  Memories.   This one isn’t a pleasant one… for me.  It was ROUGH growing up.  I’m not joking.

I was NEVER a trendy kid (nor am I now) I never took part in the mall bangs, the ratted hair (although I did get a perm to look like Baby in Dirty Dancing) I was (and am now) very conservative with my look.  No crazy patterns, no risks – no fear of THIS ever happening again.

When I was in the third grade (huge sigh) my Mom’s friend (I won’t mention her name – its like fingernails on a chalkboard) went to beauty school and decided she was going to give me and my two sisters a new hair do.

I went first.  (tear)  I WANTED to look like Jem and the Holograms (Truly Outrageous!)

THIS is a photo of Jem.

Okay then.  THIS (grab some tissue… you are going to cry… I did.) is a photo of me.

NOW – I bet you are wondering WHY in the world I would do this to my self.  UGH.  (I’m beginning to re-think it as well)

I figured – A) I’m going to be famous and it will come out at some point right??

B) It is too hidious/awful/ridiculous/hilarious NOT to share.  (we all need a good laugh)

C) It is a GOOD reminder – don’t let your awful school photo be the only memory of that year of your life.

Even if you get a bad haircut…. there are ways to fix it, hats, and scarves and good photoshop skillz.  hahahahaha  SO this is the game we are going to play.

IF you are brave (like me – HA!) then email me your worst/funniest photo and I’ll post it here – we  will all vote.  Anyone who leaves a comment or posts a photo will get 20% off their portrait package.

THE WINNER of the UGLIEST KID PHOTO CONTEST will receive a FREE portrait session which you can use for your family or give away to a family in need.  =)

Okay – that’s the contest – easy as pie.

Email me your best/worst photo at and WALA you are entered!!

P.S – leave your best comments on the blog.  Seriously – people’s reactions so far have been BEYOND hilarious!!!  (no worries of hurt feelings – I thankfully no longer look like this.)

Okay!!!  We’ve had our first entry!!

Mindy at TweetMyWedding sent her photos in today – from 1st & 2nd grade  (1st grade is obviously the cutest little girl EVER) and 2nd grade….. while the bangs are awesome and the teeth are great – I would NEVER call this cutie ugly!!  heeheheheheh  What do you guys think??  A Dakota Fanning look-alike?

SECOND ENTRY!!!  A GREAT competitor!!  Brooke Fay (previously Belanger) says this is how a mother with straight hair cuts the hair of a curly headed child …. and this was her school photo for at LEAST three years.

Brooke - school photo

The two latest entries… from David and no this is not him pictured below – it is his (now) gorgeous girlfriend Alison – check it out!!

I think I have a picture of Michael just like this. I’m hoping to sneak it in our wedding slideshow…AFTER the vows.

I will have to see if I can dig anything equally as humiliating and heartbreaking as this one out.

Be thankful your family didn’t take a picture of you talking on the phone while using the toilet and subsequently feel fit to frame it and hang it as an ornament on the Christmas tree.ReplyCancel

I’ll be sending you MY embarassing pic shortly 😉 It’s a doosey… remember when Gina brought it over in a frame as a housewarming gift and I got so mad/embarassed in front of everyone that I threw the frame under the bed? Yeah, that one!ReplyCancel
