Oh man – just a little over two years ago, I remember sitting in my kitchen with my best pal Laurel… we had just returned home from our ridiculous Vegas trip (yup, the one where we faked an engagement!!), we were drinking tequila and talking about boys. We’ve been the best friends for 15 years, so this is pretty normal for us. Although this particular conversation has always stuck out in my mind as one to remember. She had JUST started dating this boy – Howie, and we thought…. oooooh!!! Maaaaybeeee!! Then we started a secret pinterest page, to pick out her dream ring! We started it under my name, so she wouldn’t be caught – oh and so I could help drop hints to Howie if he needed/wanted it!
Then, about three weeks ago now… Howie called me, he lied & said, “Hey, I’m in your neighborhood – is it cool if I stop by?” A half an hour later, I find myself sitting an this very same table – only this time, it is with Laurel’s best friend, Mister Howie himself. He chitchats for about 2 seconds, then he says… okay, I lied, I wasn’t in this neighborhood – I just REALLY need to talk to you about something, as you know – Laurel and I are going to Mexico…. and then he pulls out a ring box. It is from Green Lake Jewelry Works, I haven’t even seen it yet and I know it is beautiful. The tears start filling my eyes, I can barely hear the words he is saying – all I can think is that this is exactly what Laurel wants.
We couldn’t stop hugging and crying – it wasn’t but a few hours later, I booked my flight (thanks Mom for the miles!) it worked out that we would meet on the beautiful island of Isla Mujeres on Easter Sunday – we were to meet on the South end of the island at sunset and would figure it out when we get there.
About a million text messages/emails later, he can’t wait – it is Sunday, we are on the island – I hide behind a column at the Cafe Mogagua where the staff knows what is going on. They laugh as I freak out while waiting. A cab pulls up, Howie & I make eye contact – they head to the couch where their iced coffees were waiting. They chat for only a minute before this happened….
After this crazy whirlwind of emotions, we quickly packed up and headed to the boat – we were off for an afternoon of snorkeling! … (these silly photos will be shared on FB!)
The next morning, we got up early and walked through town (about 4 blocks) and snapped a few photos.
Congratulations Laurel & Howie!! I love you both and cannot WAIT for this up-coming year of celebrations and planning – oh, and not to mention the three of us being together FOREVER! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
